Determination and Grit will only get you so far…….

Have you ever found yourself so engulfed in the grind of completing a task or accomplishing a goal that everything else in your life during that time feels like a blur? Almost as if you time-hopped into the future, arriving at the moment of completion?

It sounds like an incredible experience—until you realize the things that didn’t make the time hop with you. The things that were left behind in the past but should have been part of your future.

I’m not talking about regrets. I’m pointing out the details of what happens when our determination and grit propel us forward so fast that parts of us get left behind—parts that couldn’t keep pace with the speed at which we were racing toward the bullseye.

What things die in the process? You may ask yourself. Perhaps relationships—both romantic and platonic. Dreams and goals in other areas of life. Our health. Our mind. Our emotions. All at risk of not making the leap with us because we were so focused on that one great thing.

Can I invite you to take inventory of the things that were left on the loading dock while you took flight toward your latest accomplishment? The things that started to wither because you only had time to water one dimension of your life—because there simply wasn’t enough time for the rest of you.

Grit and determination are a sprint. But a life of abundance and true greatness is a marathon—one called balance.

It’s time to take off our sprinting shoes and weigh the cost of spending yet another year in laser focus on goals and aspirations that exclude the most important person—you.

Can anyone from the back say RECALIBRATE so the entire room can hear it?

Your time of recalibration is now. Every person, every idea, every goal must align with you caring for all of yourself while still fitting them into the equation. Priorities matter in everything we do—so why are you forgetting to pencil yourself in at the top of the list?

Once we know better, we do better. Start by taking inventory of everything you’ve put on the back burner. Write them down. Envision yourself living a life that fully encompasses you. Then begin the process of planning and executing—becoming the version of yourself who has it all because she has given herself all that she needed.
